I have used large ammounts of ammonia to get squirrels to move their nests
somewhere else other than my roof. It has worked well as long as I used
ALOT OF IT.

Unfortunately the most effective way of getting rid of groundhogs is the
lethal way. Barring that, you might want to try ammonia, but you will have
to put more down when the smell fades.
