Here's some more info to add into you sampling:
Our curator has a PhD in History from U of Toronto.
The new assistant curator has a BA and a Master's in Museum Studies from U
of Leicester.
My boss the director of education has a BA and a Postgrad Certificate in
Museum Studies from Harvard.
My other boss, the senior gallery interpreter has just a BA and then some
graduate history courses.
Our outreach coordinator has a BA in History and has worked at a number of
museums (at least 2 others).
I, a part-time museum educator, am overqualified for my position: I have an
MA in Medieval Studies. It doesn't look like any new full-time positions
will be opened up, and there is no annual increase in pay. So, right now,
as far as I can see, I will be making $8 and having to work 28 hours/week
or less. There is another educator who has been there for 8 years who is
still in that position.
My bosses are in their positions because they were in the right place at
the right time: the director was finishing up her internship when the
position opened up and she applied.
Being overqualified can lead to frustration and anger sometimes.
So, I guess I come down on the side of: if you want to learn more, go on
for graduate education. It may open more doors, it may not.

OKAY?
