Does anyone think that there would be support for starting a National
Association of State Museums (or State Museums Association)? That is, an
association dedicated to "STATE" or municipal museums. NOT an association
of all of the museums within a state like the Association of Indiana
Museums, Wisconsin Federation of Museums, Illinois Association of Museums,
Conference of State Museum Associations etc.
... BUT a national entity dedicated to representing the unique challenges
that face state-run, state-funded, or public tax-supported cultural
institutions throughout the country such as the Indiana State Museum, New
York State Museum, Illinois State Museum, Wisconsin Historical Society,
Texas State History Museum, etc. It could foster active, formal
partnerships, collaborations and advocacy initiatives. It would allow
State-run (or funded) cultural entities to "pool" resources in a way.
What do you think? I'm just ruminating aloud today... Thank you for your
time.
