SEEKING SPEAKERS FOR ICOM-MPR 2006
Nairobi, Kenya 7 - 9 August, 2006
In preparation of the ICOM-MPR Annual Conference 2006 in Kenya, Nairobi, The
International Committee for marketing and Public Relations (ICOM-MPR) is
seeking expressions of interest from potential speakers who have expertise
in the area of market communications.
The 2006 ICOM MPR conference will be different from ordinary ICOM
conferences. It will be arranged as a three days training programme with
lectures and workshops. We request potential speakers to offer presentations
in general topics of museum communications and marketing. These lectures
will be held on the first day of the conference and will be followed up by
workshops for all delegates. The speakers are kindly encouraged to
participate in the workshops and to contribute with their expertise.
The aim of this training programme is to develop opportunities for museums,
cultural and heritage institutions to communicate cultural identity and to
improve standards of museum communications. The idea is to encourage
participants to develop strategies for promotion and marketing of their
cultural institutions. The training programme will be laid out mainly as a
discussion forum with workshops, where possible communication and marketing
strategies to be used in different situations will be developed.
The conference will be practically oriented and directed towards a
suggestion to a strategic communications plan transferable to a wide range
of institutions. The end product will give the participants ready-to-use
“tools” for developing communication, promotion and marketing activities in
a wide range of museums and heritage / cultural centres.
The Agenda of the conference will be as follows:
One day of lessons held by professionals in the field of communications,
brand building and cultural marketing. Each lesson will be concluded by a
discussion to enlighten opportunities in how to implement the ideas in the
participants own institutions.
A two days workshop where the aim is to discuss and develop ideas for
promotion and marketing of museums and cultural centres.
A final sum up where the ideas developed will be concluded in a written
suggestion to a strategic communications plan.
The National Museums of Kenya will serve as a case study for the conference
/ training programme, and the museum will be the venue for the event.
