Traci, to be pretty blunt and follow up on what others have said...I
wouldn't do what you propose at all. I think that could really cause
trouble in time. I think what is ALWAYS, ALWAYS important to remember is
that what you do has to be doable in 20 years, in 50 years etc. You will not
be the last person, or group to deal with the collection. I think you will
find that trying to maintain a donor number year after year would be very
difficult -- and then what happens when that donor stops giving -- is the
number retired, or reassigned? As my worthy colleagues have mentioned, a
little reading will help.
