Executive Director Job Description for The Bostonian Society
The Bostonian Society, Boston's historical society, is seeking an Executive Director to serve as its chief executive officer. Founded in 1881, the Bostonian Society strives to better serve and reflect the changing interests and needs of an urban center, assisted by a mission-based merchandising activity that supports educational outreach and community service. In 2004, the Society is looking into the future and aims to revitalize its traditional role as the city's historical society by seeking and expanding all necessary resources to develop and expand its museum, library and education services.
The successful candidate will have a minimum of 10 years of museum and not-for-profit experience, with strong preference for an individual with historical museum background. He/she will have demonstrable leadership skills with a proven record of attracting financial support and a keen understanding/appreciation of collections. He/she will be professionally fluent when dealing with budgets & finances as well as time-tested all-around managerial skills. We will continue accepting resumes until the position is filled.
