I set up a wireless network in my home/office a few months ago using standard "off
the shelf" router (about $75), wireless card was included in the laptop I now use
for most of my work, cable access I already had .. initial setup was a 20 minute
process, half of which involved unpacking the router and admiring it ;)
As a precaution, I set up the enryption that is included with pretty much any decent
new router .. it took a call to tech support in Bangalor to setup the encryption,
but even that only required 10-15 minutes of my time. - Encryption prevents ne'r do
wells and drive bys in neighborhood from accessing free rides on my wireless system.
I absolutely LOVE the wireless method of enabling multiple computers to access a
single internet access point. - I'm in a two story house, router is downstairs, I
work upstairs .. signal strength is always excellent and download speeds rival that
of the primary cable.
