Look at "Dating Fabrics: A Color Guide 1800-1960" by Eileen Jahnke Trestain
(Published by the American Quilters' Society, Paducah, KY, 1998) This book
has been a godsend to me. It is really for cottons commonly used in quilts,
but will give you an idea of the colors that were used in general. Silks
and wools, I suppose, may have been an entirely different story.
