We are a children's museum but since we are located so close to university campus, many of our part time staff and volunteers are college students. We are just now implementing a more formal dress code, partly to make sure midriffs are covered and the backs of underwear don't peak out of low waist pants. We also address "personal adornment" briefly.
We will require a staff t-shirt which probably isn't appropriate for your museum, but it may give you some ideas.
