Reply to Marcia Acita 's question on geothermal

As opposed to the "Iceland" answers I saw this morning, I assume you
are referring to using a Geothermal Heat Pump System - uses circulating
water in buried underground loops as basis for temperature control.
We installed a Geothermal Heat Pump system in our off-site archival
storage facility last fall, along with humidity addition and removal
systems. We contacted our local HVAC contractors until we found one
interested in promoting use of this technology. They helped us develop
the proposal to use for writing grants and fund raising.
It cost about $4,000 more than a conventional heat-pump system and the
contractor had to get some additional training to learn about
installing it, but the estimate is, it will save around 40% of heating
and cooling costs. The only other local person we found who has a
geothermal heat-pump system in a home in the area is heating/cooling a large home
for about $75 a month.
We did not have an extremely cold winter this year, but so far our
highest bill (for a constant 72 degrees) has been $60, $21 this month,
the building itself before we installed any climate controls was
costing us $17 a month last year for electricity. Hope that is helpful,
