Folks often confuse a resume and a curriculum vita. For some jobs, such as
academic appointments a CV is appropriate. These can, and do, go over 10-12
pages. A CV includes almost anything and everything ones has done
professionally. A résumé, on the other hand, is precisely what the word
means-a summary. A résumé is an ad whose goal is to get the interview. One
and two pages are the limits for a resume. On the other hand, going for an
interview one can/should carry a separate lists of publications, exhibits,
grants, talks and lectures given, etc., in addition to an appropriate
writing sample.

IMHO the real purpose of a resume is to get an
interview. If this is true, then one or a maximum of
two pages will do for any profession.
