INTERNSHIP - SUMMER 2003
Archaeological Conservation
The Smithsonian Center for Materials Research and Education (SCMRE) and the
Office of Fellowships announce several internship opportunities in
archaeological conservation with projects in Guatemala. The internships are
a component of SCMRE's Archaeological Conservation Program, which seeks to
foster the integration of conservation and archaeological research through
collaborative materials-based studies, collections care training, and
fieldwork participation.
The internship duration is approximately 8 weeks (June - August 2003).
Funding is available to cover air fare from the continental US, and the
project(s) will cover on-site lodging and most on-site meal costs. A small
living allowance is provided by SCMRE, which can be used to supplement any
other funds available to the applicant.
Eligibility
Applicants currently enrolled in or recently graduated from recognized
conservation training programs are preferred. Applicants must have an
objects concentration, with a special interest in archaeological materials,
and English language skills. Some knowledge of Spanish is helpful but not
required.
Application Procedure
