There is a film product sold by security window services. This clear
film is used to make window glass not fall apart when smashed. It works
like the film in windshields to hold the glass together.
The film is all but invisible on glass. I'm not sure how well it
would disappear on a wall, but it comes in the large sheets and is self
sticking and would preserve what ever is under it.
I doubt it is a perfict solution, but you can look in to the pros and
cons of it at aleast.
