Some thoughts on arms / explosives / & M1's
First: If the bomb squad is called in to 'deactivate'
any cannonball or explosive devise, they will
deactivate it alright by destroying it. Whammo. This
happened years ago with a rare explosive-tipped
harpoon at Mystic Seaport.
Don't try to disarm a case or spherical shot cannon
balls on your own, and don't call the bomb squad. A
few people do it for a living for collectors and
museums. Just start calling civil war artillery
organizations.
Secondly: not to get too picky, but the M1 rifle took
an 8 round clip that would be loaded in the spring
operated chamber of the arm and the clip would be
ejected when the last round was cycled. You could
tell it was empty by the distinct 'ping' noise it
made. The enemy knew too!
