I use to make my own for living history encampments, with white flour,
water and a touch of salt for a preservative. Then cook in the oven at a
very
LOW temperature for a VERY long time--making sure they are DONE---
or hard as a rock. ;o) Thus, hard tack. (Be sure to poke with a fork to
make the holes, makes them super dry!
You may want to check with Civil War suppliers for pre-made tack.
