Tom,
By far the best examples of vision statements, as well as guidelines on how
best to form them, that I've seen come from the National Preservation Institute
(www.npi.org), which covered this topic as part of a week-long course on
Holistic Management of the Historic Site. I'd highly recommend it for anyone
who has to deal with drafting museum policy--the binder of reference materials
you cover throughout the course is worth the cost of the class! I refer to it
frequently, and will be happy to xerox the relevant section on vision
statements as well as the information on how they relate to mission statements.
