POSITION AVAILABLE: Children’s Program Assistant: The Palo Alto Art
Center
The Palo Alto Art Center is currently accepting applications for the
position of Children’s Program Assistant. The position assists the
Project LOOK! and Children’s Fine Arts Program for 20 hours per week at
$17 per hour. Candidate must have car and current driver’s license and
be available between 9am and 4:30 pm on Tues, Thurs, Fri and occasional
Sundays.
Ideal candidate will have a background in art or art education, and
experience teaching children and/or working in a museum or professional
art environment. Working skills must include time management,
prioritization, communication, and organization, with the ability to
take direction well, work independently, and follow-through with varied
assignments. Solid computer skills in word processing, data entry, email
and internet research are essential.
The Palo Alto Art Center and Children’s Art Programs:
The Palo Alto Art Center fosters creative process and thought by forging
a greater appreciation and understanding of the visual arts through
exhibitions, studio experiences, and related educational programs. A
guiding philosophy is that this mission is best achieved by connecting
the experience of viewing art with a direct involvement in making art.
Approximately 80,000 people visit annually.
The PAAC actively engages children through Project LOOK! and the
Children’s Fine Arts Program. Project LOOK! offers exhibition-related
children and family programs, including K-12th grade school tours,
Family Day Sundays, and written Family Guides to exhibitions. The
Children’s Fine Arts Program offers after-school classes and summer
workshops to children 18 months to 18 years old.
Children’s Program Assistant Position Description:
The Children’s Program Assistant assists the Project LOOK! and
Children’s Fine Art Program in all tasks relating to both programs.
These include:
Administration:
Maintaining and managing art rooms and supplies
Coordinating with staff, parents, teachers, schools and volunteers
Proofreading, data entry, phone, email, correspondence, mailing and
flier distribution
Class and tour scheduling and registration
Education:
Assisting with docent training, school tours, and family days
Writing and proofreading of curriculum materials
Facilitating art classes, workshops and special events
Planning and Outreach:
Assisting with scholarship programs
Outreach to schools and special groups
Working towards enhanced programs in a planned new Children's Art
Wing
