Ahhh, more copyright conundrums! Just because the museum owns copies of
the newspapers does not mean that they have "the orginals". Even if the
museum owns "the only extant copies"--and how would one know that--they
still might not have the right to sell or even make such copies. This
would of course apply also to the generous patron.
Ok, that was bad cop. Good cop: the museum should work out with
the patron any restrictions on making and selling copies. As I recall,
these are local publications and even if not quite in the public domain,
the likelihood that they have any resale value--as opposed to historical
value--is probably pretty small.
