Last year while looking for a position in HR, I sent out hundreds of
resumes to potential employers here in New York City. The list (all in
response to employment ads) included well known corporate establishments,
various hospitals, and The United Nations. In the end, I received two
responses (one postcard and one E-mail) other than those that were
interested in inviting me in for an interview.
Most recently when I ran an employment ad in The New York Times, it
received over two hundred responses. So many responses, coupled with the
responsibilities of a one person HR office, whose duties principally are
Executive Assistant to the Vice President for Operations, is an
overwhelming amount of work. I confess I can only respond to resumes sent
via E-mail. Otherwise, I'd have to sleep over!
