If a candidate asks to rent or appear at our facility for a specifically
political function (rally, fundraiser etc.) our policy is to contact his/her
competitor(s) and offer the facility to them on the same terms so they can
present their own event within a comparatively short time span after the
initial event, and so we don't come across as seeming to endorse one
candidate or party over another. Ideally we would want to be the site of
open forums or community Q-and-A sessions for ALL candidates (I remember
going to one at the Children's Museum of Indianapolis a number of years
ago), but so far we haven't been asked.
Ideally the rally should include a focus on arts/culture issues as well, but
we can't have everything.
If museums are expected to be a focus of community life, then this is part
of community life.
