As with Ed, ours is not an art museum. We are a historic house museum. But
our highest-ranking full-time employess is titled "curator". The fallout of
this is that much less curatorial work gets done than she would like, since
her energies are focussed on the big picture more often by neccesity. (We
are a rather new institution and are still trying to get a handle on teh
implications for our collections, so there is a lot of curatorial work to be
done yet, too.)

Subject: Curator as Director
We'd like to hear from Directors who are also the principal curators of
their small to mid-size art museums.
One of our clients would like to hire someone who can perform both roles.
1. Is this possible? Are you able to be the principal leader and
fundraiser of your museum and still develop exhibitions and manage
collections?
2. What are your top three challenges given your dual role?
3. What other staff, or organizational structure, do you recommend so that
you can perform equally well in both roles -- director and curator.
Thanks so much. Cheers, Geri
