Here is another museum studies program in a city filled with great museums
for internship (i.e. future job) opportunities:
Northwestern University Museum Studies Program
Now in its second year, the Museum Studies Program at Northwestern provides
aspiring museum professionals with an understanding of the contemporary
role of museums as reflected in all their aspects, from collections,
architecture, and exhibits to finances, operations, and education programs.
Participants in the Museum Studies Program study:
- origins of American museums
- how the collection informs the mission and vice versa
- building museum audiences
- designing educational programs for museum visitors
- the role of philanthropy and development
- organization, administration, and operations management
- museums without collections
- volunteer management
To earn a certificate of completion, students take one course per term for
three 10-week terms and complete a volunteer project outside of class
during the first and second courses. Students also participate outside of
class time in several instructor-led field trips to Chicago museums.
