Bottle people:
I have recently purchased four Proprietary Medicine Bottles through Ebay
that have my family name embossed on them. I hope someone has
information (or a source) that will provide further information about
the company, the dates of manufacture, or whatever else.
1) Embossed: Fellows Compound Syrup. Fellows Medical Manufacturing
Company, 26 Christopher Street, New York. This bottle has a screw cap,
is still unopened and is full. The paper wrapper and label are still
very readable.(The first ingredient is strychnine). When was the screw
top first used?
2) Embossed: Fellows Syrup of Hypophosphates. This bottle has a top for
a cork (?) and is a very light green in color. No manufacturers
identification.
3) Embossed: Fellows & Co. Chemists, St. John N.B. Same color and top as
(2) and has what looks likes a 5 on the bottom although the straight
line at the top of the 5 is short.
4) Embossed: Fellows and Co. Chemists, St. John N.B. Slightly taller
than (3) with a 3 on the bottom.
I have also an advertisement from a medical journal that states "30
years of confidence" and is from1901(?) promoting "Syr. Hypophos. Co.,
Fellows"
This is not a scholarly study, just fun curiosity. Any information
appreciated.
