Many years ago - about 1975 if not earlier - the Rice Institute for the Arts
in Houston, Texas did an exhibit and a publication on the portrayal of
blacks in Western art from Greek and Roman times through the 20th century. I
believe that the project was supported by the Menil Foundation. You should
be able to locate that publication through Rice University.
