MEET KRISTEN EVANGELISTA
I studied art history and Women's Studies at Wesleyan
University.
I will be graduating this May with a MA from the
Center for Curatorial Studies (Bard College). This
program is a cross between a Master's program in
museum studies and art history (specifically
contemporary art).
I am currently completing my thesis which entails
curating an exhibition (on a meger $2,000 budget!) and
writing a significant text (ie catalogue essay).
I have had numerous arts/museum internships involving
curatorial work and educational outreach. I also
worked for 2.5 years as an appraisal assistant where I
handled, examined, and researched works of art.
In between this all, I have a range of small shows at
Welseyan's museum, a small historical society, and at
Bard College.
One of my side interests is public art. This past
summer I interned at the Public Art Fund in NYC and
also worked as a research assistant for an artist
doing a public art commission in upstate NY. In my
graduate studies, I have read a lot on this topic,
exploring issues of site-specificity.
I am beginning to apply for jobs - ideally seeking a
position as an assistant curator of contemporary art
at a small museum or an alternative space. I am also
trying to coordinate my job search with my partner who
has opportunities in San Francisco Bay Area and New
England.
Nonetheless, I am considering positions across the
country.
I am looking for a mentor who has similar interests
and will advise me on launching a career in this
field.
