For an affordable, easy-to-use and fully-functional database, I suggest
looking at "Organize! Your Collection" - the basic version includes 80
predefined categories (see: http://www.homecraft.com/OYC/oycfmt.html).
For more details about the 'art' set-up, see:
http://www.homecraft.com/OYC/HOME/art.html. It allows for the insertion
of audio and picture files, and allows user to print a hard-copy record.
(Of course, these predefined categories can be modified to suit the a
user's needs.)
[I used the freeware version of this program 10+ years ago to organize
information about artwork for my "Introduction to Art History"
examinations. There were 200 images each semester, and we had to know
artist/maker, title(s), date(s), medium, original location, current
location, description, symbolism, etc.]
