I don't work in a museum but I am an art/antiques
appraiser (aka personal property appraiser.)  In the
past my clients have asked my advice about where to
donate their antiques.  If I know of a museum or a
historical society that wishes to acquire such a piece
I usually tell my client to contact that institution.
It is especially helpful if I have a pamphlet or other
material about the museum to show the client.  I keep
a file of this type of material.  I don't expect a
referral fee and I certainly don't charge the client
for the advice.  If this is appealing to you, look up
the Appraisers Association of America or other
appraisers associations for local members.  You can
also check your local yellow pages.  There are usually
a number of listings.
