One thing I haven't noticed in any of the posts is a mention of universities
with cooperative education programs. As an undergraduate in the history
program at Northeastern University in Boston, I interviewed for and accepted
a paid position at a local museum, coordinated by N.U.'s "Co-op" Dept. I've
been working in the field ever since (more than 25 years). Cooperative
education programs like Northeastern's send students out into the world not
only with a B.A., but with solid experience as well. I can't recommend such
programs highly enough.
