I would suggest having a qualified conservator have a look at it, it is most likely varnished and hence yellowed, doing the wrong thing could lead to loss of surface detail, colour etc, so.... proceed cautiously.

Subject: Cleaning an Old Globe
My best friend has acquired her great-grandfather's
globe. It's in otherwise perfect condition, but
appears to need to be cleaned due to its age. It's a
wonderful item with countries named like Indo-China
and Siam, and I'm wondering:
1. Should it be cleaned, or should it be left in its
current condition (except for its age it looks good,
but, after watching Antique Roadshow a gazillion time,
I'm reticent to clean anything old lest I detract from
its value because of the aging)?
2. If yes, is there an economical home-remedy?
3. What precautions should be taken?
Many thanks.
