Your board is treating you like an hourly employee by mandating that you stay
in the bulding from 9-5. One of the perks of management is flexibility; when
you put in the extra hours, it is only fair that you have some flexibility
with your schedule (as long as it doesn't impact the workplace, of course). I
used to be in a similar situation so I understand how frustrating this can be.
Have you considered contacting 5-6 comparable institutions in your area and
obtaining information about the comp time / flex time policies for executive
/ upper management staff?
For those of you entering the profession or thinking about switching jobs, I
think this is a great lesson (I learned it myself a while ago) on how work
hours and expectations of comp time need to be negotiated upfront.
