I am working on the preservation of a cemetery in middle Tennessee. The
majority of the graves date from the mid 1800s, but the cemetery opened
around 1810. The limestone grave markers generally legible. I am making a
large assumption in that gravestones would be subject to the same kinds of
preservation methods as other exterior decorative stone.
First, is that a reasonable assumption? Second, what can be done to arrest
the deterioration of the stones?
Thanks.
