Hi Chris,
You can also use different formulas to determine the readability
level of your text. The Fry or Cloze method are common ones. Here's a

It's a quick and dirty method, but it might help you to think about
word choice, etc.
If you have a copy of Hooper-Greenhill's Educational Role of Museums
check out James Carter's chapter How old is this text. I vaguely
recall that this is a comparison of the Fry and Cloze methods.
Also if you don't have a copy, you should pick up Serrell's Exhibit
Labels: An Interpretive Framework. It's an excellent reference.
