I suspect (and hope) that this is a short term "sensitivity issue". I have in the past seen events cancelled which might have an unfortunate resonance with vistors in the period immediately after an incident. This is similar to TV companies cancelling scheduled showings of films. It is usually short term and considered part of being respectful to the victims.
