It is unrealistic to think that staff will not use e-mail and web
services for personal uses. . . rather than creating a set of
"policy dos and don'ts" I put the following out to our staff. . .
"You are a professional. . . you have work to accomplish and
should have a sense of what is proper and improper to do
in the work place. In using e-mail and web service while at
work, please realize that you represent the institution. Please
use your professional judgement. We realize that you will
make some e-mail and web use for personal items. . . please
don't let this interfere with getting your work done or create
situations that will make your co-workers and/or the public
uncomfortable. . . . and don't do things that you would be
uncomfortable showing to your mother or grand-mother or
that you wouldn't want hung on the door to your workspace."
