I think it fairer to say modern nationalism was developed
during the early 19th century (by personalities including
Napoleon, Fichte, Mazzini, etc.). Even still, there were
'nationalists' before modern nationalism. If you want to
pinpoint key figures, start with the biggest names in
political and/or military history: Hammurabi, Narmer,
Pericles, Alexander the Great, Augustus Caesar, even Genghis
Khan . . . countless others.
