Colleagues,
Last week there was a posting on the list that we should direct
ourselves to a particular website to see the grantees for the NEH
programs. I took it to mean that it was the newly released set of
grants. I went there and sadly my grant application was not funded in
the Access and Preservation category for my state. I immediately
emailed my two colleagues who co-authored the grant and told them that
we did not get it. I also asked our grants manager to look into the
reason we did not get it so we could revise it and make it into a better
application next year.
Serendipitously, I got a call from one of the NEH staff members the very
next day who started out the conversation with "Hi, how are you?". Well
(I told her) I was a little depressed, but please tell me how we could
improve our grant proposal. She clearly didn't understand where I was
coming from. In the end we discovered that I had misunderstood the
posting to our listserve, and thought that I was going to the list of
newly released grant recipients. In fact what we were led to was nearly
a full year old.
Whoever, sent that posting, obviously had good intentions in providing
the resource - but it was quite outdated. I don't know if there is a
moral to the story or not - but the closest I can come is that you
better look a gift horse in the mouth before you decide to accept the
gift (that's a registrar for you!)
Suzanne (and I just realized the other day that I have been a subscriber
to the list for 10 years now - I remember when we hit 200 subscribers -
wow!) feelin' old
