I sent two editorials from the Chicago Tribune that
are in diametric opposition on this issue. One
believes there should be "historical accuracy"; the
other rues the position many have taken about the
substitution of images.
There was one section in one of them I wanted to be
bring to the group's attention:
"Except, unlike the three firemen in the photo who are
all white, the statue will depict one white, one black
and one Hispanic.
"A New York Fire Department spokesman said the
multiethnic representation is intended to honor
"everyone who made the supreme sacrifice." Twelve of
the firefighters who died were black and another dozen
were believed to be Hispanic."
