Research Associate: New York City History The Museum of the City of New York seeks a scholar with research expertise in New York City history, society, and/or culture. The Research Associate will work with the Museum's curatorial, learning and exhibitions staff to prepare the interpretative framework for the Museum's programs at its new home at the Tweed Courthouse on Chambers Street, to open in 2004.
The Research Associate will serve as a member of the Museum's History Committee. Duties include: researching and helping to write scripts for new exhibitions on New York City history; preparing supplementary materials (including visitors' guides, audioguide scripts, docent training workshops, web exhibitions and curriculum materials for teachers); and developing public programs on New York City history.
Qualifications: Advanced degree in history, anthropology, sociology, education, or a related discipline (Ph.D. preferred). Strong background in public history and/or material culture, teaching experience and publications highly desirable. Excellent writing, communications and interpersonal skills.
The term of employment is 18 months, beginning as soon as possible through August, 2003. Salary range: mid-$40,000s to mid-$50,000s, depending on qualifications; excellent benefit packages.
