There are a number of ways of removing candle wax; mostly it depends
whether the wood is varnished or not.
If varnished, then white spirit (UK) or turpentine substitute is perhaps
the least likely to cause damage. If the wood is unvarnished, white spirit
is good, Xylene is more thorough, but needs more care
