Please! Not just in "a museum in Vienna!". This is hardly "just another
museum"!!!
The vehicle is the centrepiece of one of the most interesting displays in
Vienna's oldest museum - the Heeresgeschichtliches Museum. The car is
exhibited together with memorabilia of the assasinated Franz Ferdinand,
including the uniform he was wearing (the blood stains on the tunic and
trousers are visible) and the chaise lounge on which he died in Sarajevo.
The vehicle (a 1910 Graef & Stift, 4 cylinders, 28/32 HP), repaired after
being damaged during the Second World War, was placed on display in 1957.
The museum has an incredible colleaction, particularly of war art and
uniforms and decorations, but also of weaponry. Sadly, it has been described
as the most underfunded museum in Austria.
This being said, it is still one of the world's premier historical museums
and should be high on anyone's list of priorities during a visit to Wien.
The building itself is one of the most attractive and interesting in a city
of wonderful public buildings. Photography is permitted inside, on payment
of a small fee.
"a museum in Vienna", indeed.
