Good Afternoon Robyne,
To respond to your question, "....for those of you Yanks who did get advanced degrees in the UK, did you find that jobs and/or work visas were easier to acquire, or perhaps seem a viable opportunity for you?"
I am a Southener (please....not a Yank) who attended the Leicester Course in the early 1970s (when "Grocer" Heath was Prime Minister). If my memory serves me correctly, I was the first Leicester graduate to return to the USA. I can tell you that being a Leicester graduate was a positive asset when looking for a job in the USA, way back in the early 1970s. I am sure it helped separate me from the other candidates when I secured my first, full-time, professional museum position in 1974. I hasten to add that while I did student attachments (read: internships) in various UK museums, I was not paid. I had saved up money prior to going to do graduate studies at Leicester. When I returned to the USA, I had the equivalent of $12 left in my pocket.
I hope this information helps.......

The subject of working in the UK has prompted me to ask a question I've been
stewing on...
I'm curious as to any thoughts or experiences anyone has had with the
distance learning Museum Studies Programme at Leicester University. I
really want to complete my MA, but I can't seem to give up working (and not
just financially, I love my job!) Does anyone have any thoughts to share on
distance learning, earning a degree in such a fashion, or this program in
particular?
I'm also wondering, for those of you Yanks who did get advanced degrees in
the UK, did you find that jobs and/or work visas were easier to acquire, or
perhaps seem a viable opportunity for you? (Part of the Leicester program
is a summer in residence, which I would definitely do!)
Thanks in advance, and feel free to respond here or to me personally.
Robyne
