You can use Paypal for gift store stuff (we don't do this yet, although
other sites certainly do). Also - we use an organization called
www.networkforgood.com to make on-line donations possible for visitors to
our site. You can take a look at our site to see how it works. So far no one
has taken us up on it. :) I think that on-line donations have more to do
with your off-line marketing than people stumbling across your web site
(unless the pitch is really effective - one I've noticed is
http://www.civilwarmed.org/fundraising.cfm).
By far the more successful idea is using paypal for a mail-in gift shop.
Plenty of people who don't really want to come by the museum are happy to
purchase our books by mail-order. Right now that mostly means e-mailing us,
getting a total, mailing a check, and then receiving their stuff. Someday we
will do Paypal.
Good luck!
