Maria Sanchez queried:
"I have just begun working with an extensive archive. As I am reading a
report on the archives assessment doen by a contracting company, I came
across the term disposition. I am unfamiliar with this term. It seems to
me that it is similar to deaccession."
My not-to-be-confussed-with-expert-knowledge answer:
I *think* that disposition is a term used in reference to records (of an
object, e.g.) .. whereas the object itself may be deaccessioned, the
records of said object may ulimately be dispositioned (after a certain
period of time after the deaccesion, I would imagine) .. I recently came
across this term myself, BTW, thus my newfound knowledge.
Disposition .. a fancy term for "dump the records, we aren't required to
keep them anymore"?
