The classic book for museum histories that is always mentioned is Edward Alexander's "Museums in Motion". There are also brief histories of museum types in "The Museum: A Reference Guide" edited by Michael Steven Shapiro. A good history of the Children's Museum is in the Museum
News November/December 1999 issue entitled" The Slender Golden Thread, 100 Years Strong: The children's museum movement celebrates its centenary". I am sure there are others but these are off the top of my head. I am not aware of a history of corporate museums but if someone knows
of a good article, let me know on list.
