Academic Programs Officer

The Wolfsonian-Florida International University, a museum and research
center located in the heart of historic south Miami Beach, is seeking a
highly motivated scholar to broaden the use of the Wolfsonian's collection
for teaching and research. The Academic Programs Officer will work with the
Education Programs Manager to prioritize collaborative initiatives with
other divisions of the university and take the lead in pursuing related
projects, as well as working with the FIU Academic Advisory Council. This
individual will oversee and coordinate The Wolfsonian's competitive
fellowship program, including its conceptualization and promotion,
processing all fellowship-related research inquiries and applications,
overseeing the application review process, coordinating the scheduling,
travel, orientation, and stewardship of fellows, and facilitating
collaboration with FIU community. This position also will be responsible for
developing, organizing, and implementing scholarly programs for faculty and
students. This individual will develop and monitor budgets for all academic
programs, including fellowships.
The Wolfsonian-FIU promotes the examination of modern material culture to
enhance the understanding and appreciation of objects as agents and
reflections of social, political, and technological change. The institution
focuses on its extraordinary collection of North American and European
decorative, propaganda, and fine arts of the 1885-1945 period, donated to
Florida International University in 1997 by Mitchell Wolfson, Jr. The
museum's exhibitions, publications and programs serve local, national, and
international audiences.
Requirements: Master's degree in History, Art History, American Studies or
an appropriate area of specialization; or a bachelor's degree in same and
two years of relevant experience.
Preferences: Ph.D. in History, Art History, American Studies and related
areas of study; knowledge of history or art history from the late
nineteenth- and early twentieth-centuries; knowledge of research methods,
including data search engines; administrative skills, and strong
interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively in promoting
programs and dealing with the academic community.
