MUSEUM HISTORIAN
CAPE FEAR MUSEUM
New Hanover County on the North Carolina coast (population 160,000) seeks a
museum historian for Cape Fear Museum, which is the state's oldest history
museum and is accredited by the American Association of Museums. Reporting
to the Museum Curator, this position researches topics relevant to the
Museum mission, exhibits and programs; ensures that sound, professional
research methods are used by other staff, volunteers and consultants;
documents research; maintains a research library and monitors its budget;
assists the public with library research; prepares reports and articles;
supervises volunteers and interns. Requires a Master's degree in History
or related field and 2 years experience in historical research using
primary and secondary sources; or an equivalent combination of education
and experience. Ph.D. in History or related field preferred. Must be able
to evaluate research of staff, volunteers and consultants and have a valid
NC Driver's License and good driving record. Hours: 8:30AM-5:30PM
weekdays; must be available for evening meetings, special events and
emergencies. Minimum starting salary: $35,859 plus a competitive benefits
