I recommend this book:
Maroevic, Ivo (1998): Introduction to Museology - The European Approach.
Munich: Verlag Dr. Christian Mueller-Straten.
It's very thoroughly done and definitely worth reading for anybody
interested in museology.
The book can be ordered at
http://www.yipi.de/museum-aktuell/artikel.asp?idartikelgruppe=4912
Ordering information available in German only, sorry for that. The price
is some 40 Euro which is roughly some 40 USD. There is an abstract
available in English:
Maroevic, Ivo: Introduction to Museology - The European Approach
Translated into English by Gary Edson. You will find here not only an
overview of the history of museums in Europe, but also of museology. The
third part consists of Prof. Maroevic`s view of museology being a part of
the science of information. Teaching museology in Zagreb, the author
received the Research Award of Zagreb for this book in 1999.
Best regards,
