Have you decided if you will allow educators to use their memberships to get
classes, or portions thereof, in for tours at a reduced rate? Every once in
a while, we get a teacher who wants to use their family/full membership to
our state system to get the max. card limit in for free. Our policy clearly
states that memberships are not available for other than immediate family
members on group tours... I even had one teacher who got a couple of
parents (or her friends) to loan her enough membership cards to try to get
her entire class in free. This was of course, when they arrived and not
mentioned when she scheduled the tour and was given our admission and other
information. When I stuck to the policy and charged her the agreed-upon
price, she was less than happy - after all, it had taken a lot of her time
to round up enough membership cards! Unfortunately, she had a hard time
understanding the idea that the member has to actually be PRESENT to use
their card... I honored her card and did not charge her for the tour.
I would say that whatever you decide, this portion of your educator
membership policy should be very clear and PRINTED ON THE BACK OF THE CARD -
that will help take care of your "front line" staff from any confusion on
the part of educators who are members and coming for school tours.
Good Luck!
