I'm with Mr. Bing on this.  (And, so you know I'm not just
"being jingoistic," I will write as both a Canadian citizen
AND an American citizen, and -- if I cared to apply -- a
citizen of the E.U.)

The Gordon Sinclair broadcast dates to 1973.  At that time
(with the exception of the Japanese financial aid following
the 1906 San Francisco earthquake), everything Mr. Sinclair
said was true.  It remains true enough to raise spirits
during our current crisis and mourning.

Everyone is concerned that reaction by the American
government should be suitable -- endangering as few
innocents as possible.  But to demand the United States
"earn" Europeans' good opinions is ludicrous.  Unless, of
course, you place such rigorous criteria upon each and every
European country?

Kristina, placing blame and pointing fingers is unnecessary
and trivial.  As my Mom used to say, "If you don't have
something nice to say, don't say anything at all" . . . or,
perhaps more apropos, "Don't kick someone when they're
down."
