It is not too late to register! The Cultural Resource Management Program at the University of Victoria is pleased to offer the following workshop on Solving Fungal Problems in Heritage Collections for professionals in the museums and related organizations.
Solving Fungal Problems in Heritage Collections
While fungi play an important role in recycling organic matter, their efforts are not appreciated in the museum setting. This three-day workshop for conservators and collections care staff focuses on ways in which to prevent or mitigate fungal problems in museum collections, and develops your ability to ensure the safety of organic materials by examining:
* aspects of fungal biology related to preventive conservation
* approaches to microscopy to determine the presence of fungi on artifacts
* the evaluation and interpretation of monitoring methods
* approaches to designing and testing logical collection recovery procedures and methods for a scenario
* safety and health issues
Instructor: Mary Lou Florian is Conservator Emeritus with the Royal British Columbia Museum and has undertaken extensive research on the impacts and prevention of fungal problems in heritage collections. Her recent publication Heritage Eaters focuses on the prevention of damage to heritage collections by insects and fungi
Dates: April 15 - 17, 2002
Please register by: March 22
Fee: $370 (non-credit)
